The First Project Car – 1990 Camaro Iroc-Z

This page is a timeline of researching cars that I could get, where I could get them from, and what I should be looking at. This is a journey to my first project car.

I was looking through Reddit today and I found a sub page called CarTalk. The first post on the page was pinned from two years ago; it was a checklist of things you should look at when you’re getting a used car. I’ve found a few of these before, but I found this one particularly useful because of the depth it included. For example while the rating was only yes/no. At the end depending on the colour code and how many yes and no’s you said it would tell you whether the car was worth it.

It’s been awhile since I posted anything. I’ve mostly just been narrowing my list of possible cars down. My original list included 5 cars but I’ve narrowed it down to 3 and put them in order of what I want most. The original 5 which were in no particular order were:

1982-2002 Chevrolet Camaro

2003-2012 Chevrolet Colorado

Any year Chevrolet C/K Truck

Any Year Chevrolet S10

XJ Jeep Cherokee

As you can see the list mostly contains Chevy cars, which is for a reason. As of this date, I’ve narrowed the list down to 3 cars with the years of which I’m most interested in.

#1 on my list is a third generation Chevrolet Camaro. This includes years 1982-87. Personally, this is my fourth favorite generation. As for the reason it’s on my list; Camaros are my dream car. Ever since I moved to the USA, I’ve wanted to have one. Even though this isn’t the nicest generation it’s still a Camaro.

Next up on the list: 80s Cheverlot K5/K10. The K5 Blazer is a gorgeous truck. My friend owns an 88 K5 (pictured to the right), and from the moment I saw it I was in love with the truck. The K10 is more like your normal pick-up truck. This generation of pickups from Chevy and GMC are commonly known as the ‘squarebody.’ Which also leads me into the next and final option.

The last possibility on my list is a ‘squarebody’ S10. Most people don’t really think about an S10 being a squarebody but the body style of it follows the 80s C/K truck and it is from the 80s. These trucks are small and fit just about anywhere. But, they do still fit bikes.

So there you go. My top three options for a project car. I know, they’re all from the 80s, but there is just something about those three that I like.

Well, it’s done. I got my project car. It’s a 1990 Chevrolet Camaro Iroc-Z. So yes, this is one of my dream cars. For those of you who care, I’m going to list the specs that I know:

  • Make: Chevrolet
  • Model: Camaro
  • Trim: Iroc-Z
  • Engine: 305 (5.0L) TPI OHV
  • Transmission: Auto (I think it’s a 5 speed)
  • Horse Power: 210hp @ 4400 rpm
  • Torque: 285 ft-lbs @ 3200 rpm

Anyway, stay tuned for a new video where I talk about the car and why I like it so much. For the time being however, here is the video from when I went to get it.
